I never thought I would say this, but I had THE best time at the Mall of America for Black Friday this year, all thanks to the awesome folks behind Chex Party Mix!
They had a huge booth set up in one of the rotunda areas to demonstrate different yummy Chex Party Mix recipes, like Chocolate Mint Chex Mix and Sugar Cookie Chex Mix. Even though I’m a huge fan of Black Friday shopping, I’ve never ventured out to an actual mall for the big day before. I was a little nervous about the crowds, but the Chex event made it all worth it!
We had a few Chexperts (that’s their official title – fun, right?) show us just how quick and easy it can be to make Chex Party Mix in the microwave. I’m all about that, by the way. Traditional Chex mix is yummy, but between work and school, I don’t really have time for actual cooking in the oven. I had no idea you could use the microwave for the same tasty results in only 10-15 minutes.
All you have to do is measure out your ingredients (starting with Chex cereal, of course). We were making Chocolate Mint Chex, which required us to use the microwave twice – once to melt the chocolate (30-60 seconds, stopping to stir), and once to “bake” the Chex Party Mix (3 minutes, no stirring required).
The longest part was actually waiting for it to cool. After our cooked Chex came out of the microwave, it got spread on a baking sheet to cool off so the chocolate & mint could firm up.
Wait, that’s not quite true. I think we might have spent a more time packaging up our different Chex Party Mix flavors in cute boxes and tins. This is me with Marybeth from Baby Savers and Angela from Angela’s Kitchen showing off our pretty boxes, all wrapped up and ready to be given as yummy gifts to our friends.
Except for mine, that is. I don’t like sharing snacks if I don’t have to.
I love the idea of throwing a Chex “Mixchange” instead of a Cookie Exchange since it’s so simple and easy to make, there are endless variations, and it tastes delish. Plus, most of the recipes are naturally gluten free, which is a big bonus when you have friends with food sensitivities or allergies.
Despite my label, Levi wound up eating all of my yummy Chex Mix that we made at the event. There’s a silver lining, though. I think I’m going to use that as an excuse to try out some of the other Chex recipes I picked up at mall, so keep an eye out for another post and a messy kitchen
Did You Go Black Friday Shopping This Year?
